ABOUT CENTER FOR ACTIVE LANDSCAPE (CAL)

Center for active landscape is a research center developed at Department of Landscape Architecture, Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand. We aim to build evidence about how to create physical and social environment on different scale (public places, neighborhood, and cities) that are great for improving the quality of life. We understand that built environment that are designed for active living are better for health, economic vitality, and environmental sustainability. Our research encompasses broad interrelations between built environment and public health, including the effects of global environmental change to mental and physical health of urban population.

WHAT WE DO

Our mission is to work with local governments, NGOs, private sectors and other stakeholders to apply lesson learned from research to build a supportive environment for health. Our goal is to provide credible and action-oriented research to support policy advocacy on creating built environment that can improve well-being and quality of life and promoting active living in Thailand.

Our projects encompass the broad definition of built environment and health to shape projects and places in ways that improve the health of people and communities. The Center is focusing on four main areas of impact:

 

1. RAISING AWARENESS. Raise awareness of the connection between health and the built environment in all sectors, and work to make sure health is a mainstream consideration.

 

2. DEFINING EVIDENCES AND LESSON LEARNED. help to define and share information about design approach, research, strategies, and other materials that improve health for people.

 

3. ADVANCING THE STATE OF PRACTICE AND POLICY. In partnership with other stakeholders, the center aims to advance the state of policy and practice in built environment and health.
